The distant horizon. The tender edges of things. The photographs promise the impossible. To capture feeling, the dissonance of light and dark, the vibrancy of evening disappearing. In painting, this work became an assemblage of atmospheres. When I finally passed the Breaksea Islands and entered the bay, the calm water and mist-filled mountains induced in me a sense of relief. In the following days of travelling though the waterways I was met with never-ending possibilities. It was the moments of pause, finding myself between one place and another that was to later become the inspiration for this painting.
